Run - Sgrunners CBD run

Joined the SGrunners for a Tues CBD which i had missed out for sometime due to work commitment and well Salsa session.

Well there is over 30 sgrunners at the run.. most of them seeing them for the first time,
ronnie, sxuanjing, meteor, sv, cosmic, charlotte, james, philip, kickjazz, bee, Le RSM brokie , puayhien , puayhien's fren, Splitz, aichai, shutelelup n gf, charmane, rayner, angelicawonders, roonz , CompassT71, leh lio gal, run3 n colleague, superboy, cfred, t@z, kay, teelee, tin tin, tiwazz etc. OH and NO SWEAT was there too!

The run has been modified from a 5 km to a 8km route. The new route was well new to me. As my group was the lead group (faster runners) only meteor knows that route well enough, several times we aren't sure of where to run. Most interesting part was locating a hidden staircase that leads to the sheares bridge, almost like an adventure run. The view from the bridge is breath taking.

At the end of the run, we were greeted with 100plus and we also celebrated roonz bday with a sinful chocolate banana cake ! .. have to plan for a super long run this weekend to burn it off!

Q : How many SGrunners needed to light up a candle in the wind?
A : 1 to block and 1 to light up and 1 to cheer them on

A parting shot

Run - fort canning - kimseng 6.8km

Went down to Running lab today for a run , prior to that i went down to challenger and found this nifty gadget a mini speaker , wouldn't it be great if i have this speak plug to my ipod and share music with my friend while on the run.

Good news my HRM issue was really a battery flat problem. Got the batt replaced at 10 bucks.

Before plugging in to the earphone jack.

Notice the speaker has a blue LED light while its on.

Now i have to think of how to secure it to my ipod armband. Today the crowd was slightly less then the week before, tekko and wifey , GR , bambi, run3 , stephen (back from exam) , dino all turned up for the run. There are also quite a few new faces too . IMD had to come down later as he has a brisk walk group to take care of.

Eddie decide to take the fort canning route , Which most of them aren't really familiar with as IMD is not around dino was task to lead the faster group, while eddie lead the other group. But somehow, folks who are faster ran ahead and well lost direction. It took awhile to redirect them back to the path. A little chaotic this run turns out to be.

During our warmdown session , the Sgrunners doing their own "ninja training run" dropby namely tiwazz, KJ , junie and 2 other i am not familar with..KJ teased me asking me why i dun go down to CBD run anymore. Haha maybe i should next week .. we will see.

Distance : 6.88km
Timing : 33mins 57sec
Pace : 4.8mins/km
HRM : 172-182

Run - Yishun - Sembawang park 9.24km

Met friend jon for a run today, he decided to drive up to bottle tree resturant to linkup with me to do a 5km run, which is middle of my routine run route. He is well i guess preparing to do a 21km run this august abit rush but i am sure he can do it. Along my route up to simpang kiri park connector i saw..

A mizuno delivery truck at the junction of andrew ave. The driver came out inspecting an empty shophouse near the sembawang park. Maybe they are setting up a running shop there.. hmm ponder .. don't you just love the slogan "your passion is our obssession"

Well here is the simpang kiri park connector , and thats the sea infront facing the straits.

Midway thru my run i notice my HRM is registering 89 bpm hmm and i should be getting more the 160. Not sure if its battery is running out or it needs to be repaired..sigh..Along the run i was busy advising him how to achieve his target by completing the 21km and not to push for timing. And how he can slowly increment his distance before the race. Lets hope he stick to the plan.

Distance : 9.24km
Timing : 49mins 24sec
Pace : 5.3mins/km

Yishun town run - 10.05km

Todays run covers the whole of yishun. Didn't know that yishun is really ermm that small actually. The rain cloud cleared after 4pm, prep my stuff and went on for the run. Greenery can be seen on either side of the road, kinda relaxing run.

Swim - 20 laps Safra MF

Had a swim at safra MF lastnite. This is my first time to this latest safra clubhouse pool over at telok blangah. Once i took the plunge i felt that the water quality is some what different from safra club in yishun. It seems to have less chlorine and well the water seems to be heavier and more resistant. Had a really tough time swimming there took alittle more effort i am not sure if anyone felt the same as i do.

20 laps took me about 27 mins.

Run- Yishun pond and park 5.97km

Had a run this evening testing out my new purchased casio exilim ex-z60 camera from a moving out sale. Chuck it into my hydration belt and went for a run with it. Rather uncomfortable with it behind my belt. Thankfully its light and slim enough for this short run. If you notice the route map it looks somewhat like an elephant hmmm..

Here we have the yishun pond

monkey spotted at yishun park chewing a banana.

Run- Yishun park - yishun dam 10.8km

Did not have the time to dropby RL for a run lastnite, Due to late meetings. So did my own ninja later in the evening been. Has been drizzling before the run, But stop just in time for my run.

During the run one can really appreciate the nature, i was surprise to see a monkey at yishun park and not to mention rats coming out from their burrows in search of food.

Do take note that pavements along forested road tends to be slippery after the rain. Some sort of algae would grow along the pavement making it so. So i would recommend running on the road instead. Not to mention cycling kids who wont give way to runners argh as usual. So one has to teach them manners man!

    Distance : 10.8km
    Timing : 50mins 05s
    Pace : 5 mins/km

Run- yishun pond and park 5.65km

Did some speed work about 5.65km today evening after the rain. Wet weather made running quite a choir, avoiding puddle and slippery pavement and not to forget kids on bikes who disregard runners. Was almost knock down by a group of them.

    Distance : 5.65km
    Timing : 26mins 05s
    Pace : 4.6 mins/km

Swim- friday , Sentosa - saturday

Had a swim lastnight at jln besar pool with my friend. Who btw is a triathlete.

three discipline that's quite a lot. But for her she has been in the athletics since secondary. Unlike me. Oh well this year I will just stick to completing my first marathon.

I complete my 20 laps at abt 28mins quite an improvement. Unlike for her she did 30 laps with in 40 mins. Too fast for me to catchup. We exchange tips and she did mention that proper turning and pushing off can shave 2 seconds or more on the swim.

    -----------

Meet up the with my friends at sentosa for some volleyball over at tanjung beach
the sgrunners - tiwazz, andy, imd, sv , balasing, nemo were there too.
Nemo and SV went for a swim , after which SV and IMD went for a cycling training over at jurong. Nemo, andy later did their own run around sentosa.

As for me after volleyball , frisbee went over to KM8 to chillout.. tiring day indeed.

    Volleyball gangster.. watch out!

    Sunset at KM8..

Run- marina south - 9.4km plus nike shoe trial

After i heard from SGrunners forum that the upcoming RL run has the Nike most publicised airmax 360 up for trial . Immediately i jump into this oppourtunity to drop by for a test run.

Came in about 6pm and the shoe counter has been setup already. I asked for the shoe size 9.5 which was the only available pair that suits my foot. Fill up the form and ready to go. Runners starts streaming in after 6.15.. familiar faces like SV, IMD, Tekko, molly, Divey, ronnie, VRP (all bought new shoes.. came together with their boss) ..and dosen of new faces..While waiting for the run to start i mixed in some gatorade powder into the given mineral water. Preparing to drink it after the run. Another thing is i am good to report that i did not have to adjust my new sony headphone thru out the run, looks like the over the ear headphone is really the solution!

After the run i had my gatorade and it gave me a stomachache. Not sure why maybe i should not have drank it down in one shot. We had our warmdown before heading down to the sting ray shop for makan. Seems they have changed ownership, the noodle aren't as tasty as before.

This time the run was from boat quay to marina south. Well not my favourite route coz running thru the CBD with all the pollution isnt good for my breathing.

Short review of Nike Airmax 360
The Nike airmax 360, construction is rather simple, instead of having foam as the sole. It is subsituted with a block of air encased in a PVC and weighing in at 340gms. During the run i felt the cushioning was rather good as compared to my mizuno waverider. It has a bouncy feel to it liken to running on a large basketball. Ventilation wasn't well that good, you can noticablely see that there anit much of ventilation holes or meshed fabric around the shoe. Also the traction on the shoe was slippery on a wet surface such as semi smooth tiles, maybe its becoz its new.

Just a final word on the shoe is, try not to run in any trail route. You might puncture the pvc and that won't be nice. There is almost no protection at the center of the sole( the rest of the sole is covered with a layer of ABS rubber but not the center bit). Well i did enjoyed my run with it and extended my run to have a better feel of it. So If you are looking for a cushion shoe to run on a road terrain then this will be sufficient despite some flaws.

    Distance : 9.4km
    Timing : 47mins 22s
    Pace : 5 mins/km
    HR : 178-181

New Gear - Sony MDR-EX81SL earphone

As a regular runner who needs to listening to motivating songs on your ipod. I get irritated after running for less then 30mins, when the perspiration give lose to my earphone and it drops off. I have to keep stuffing it back on. After some consideration i decided to purchase this baby.

The Sony MDR-EX81SL. It has over-the-ear plastic hangers to hold the earpieces in position . Thats great for my long run. More review here
