run -sembawang park - sembawang beach 10.16km

Don't really fancy waking up in the morning for a run.. i kinda procrasinated when the alarm ring early in the morning 6.30am. So i kinda laze around till 7.10pm before getting out of the house.

The run was a simple and the usual run. From my house to sembawang park and back. Should there be a low tide i will run along the beach kinda of training for the real run in 2 weeks time. Fortunately when i reach the beach it was a low tide, so took the opportunity to run on the beach.

Did not officially timed my run this time round it was probably about 50 mins or so.

Weekend updates - Wakeboarding - Mizuno wave run

Saturday - Wakeboarding
Went to Raffles marina for a 2hr wakeboarding fun with my salsa classmates. Afew of them never ride before or did once or twice before. Me and wayne are the more experience riders but sort of rusty after 2-3yrs of inactivity. So each of us had a 10-15mins ride each before we let the beginners had a go at it. At the end of the day most of the beginners got to standup at least for ....a a minute.

On the boat...

A parting group shot

Sunday - Mizuno wave run

The run saw me waking up at 6am to give jon a wakeup call . Prep my bag with my gears and hydration pak (heard abt lack of water at hydration points from last year run) .

Goodie bag contents

On the way down to meet the SGrunners gang, We bump into the VRP ladies and tekko plus wife at mcdonald . After which we headed down to the start point which is an ex-bus terminal. Looks like a major political rally is happening there where the gang is. The group size was huge i think 40-50 over pple. Kay was the camera man snapping away as he is not running. The most chop chop and professional among the bunch was RSM brokie. Seems like shes out to win haha

The race starts at 7.30am sharp and we see a mountains of runners jumpin across fence in bid to secure better running positions. Along the way chit chated with taz and he mentioned something like if i would finshed the race in 45mins.. and i said not likely.. more like 50mins i would be happy. After which i dash off which was quite a chore as the crowd was blocking most of the way. Next somewhere mid point i bump into charmain she has discovered the joy of listening to inspirational music on music player. We exchange good will message and i proceed on. Next i bump into jamesoh, he was very focus so i leave him in his trance like state.

After bend i bumped into brokie and boy she was fast really out to win..(maybe win the gals in our group) . Somehow at this point my sore from yesterdays wakeboard session kicks in. And i seems to slow down considerably and momentum was further disrupted by trafficpolice stopping the runners for vehicles.

Turning point to the end point i notice a fast running SYT from MGS was going really strong she has been leading ahead of me since the end of old tampines rd. That triggers me to end strong or at least over take her. In the end .. i kinda did... thou i am not sure of that...

Final score
50mins.. excluding waiting time...

Well some of us at before the race ~

Run- Safra Mount Faber clubhouse - Telok Blangah Hill 5.8km

In prep for the upcoming 10km mizuno wave run, Jon and myself decided to go down to Safra MF for a short tapering run . Got there at about 7pm at that point we saw the Safra running club guys moved off for their run. thought about joining them but did not check their timing for the run..oh well another time.

Anyway prior to the run i sort of already decided where to run. But then on google map and on the ground looks and feel kinda different. Once we dump our bag in the gym we head out straight to telok blangah hill park. The upslope was rather alright for me but at some tracks it leads to a dead end and we have to make a U-turn. It feels rather disruptive to me.

The evening skys on top of the hill looks mezmerising, too bad i did not bring along a camera.

At the end of the run. I spotted cfred and cherry runner together with the rest of the safra running club guys and they seems friendly . They offer us open invite to join them for their weekly run. They appearantly did a 12km run to labarador park which was scenic and cooling place for a run.

Next time maybe i will join them hopefully their pace is manageable.

Last but not least heres a stash of my powergels and hammer gel required for my marathon training. Got them from the Shape Run expo at $2.30 each! gd deal.

weekend update - SHAPE run

"Men just don't get it" quote from a slogan for one of the local bank credit card can apply for this instance. This SHAPE run is not meant for mens :( . Its the first female run organised by shape magazine. Over 2,500 runners turn up for this event. As for me my task is to take photos of SGrunners at the event.

So woke up at 6.30am head down to marina square area , bump into the guy cheering group.

DR, superboy, teelee, shuthelup, tiwazz, cyberkinetic, cfred.. was walking down to see the parade of gals at the startling line. For the first time i was relaxing on the side of the track not having to run.

The run was flag off by Dr Amy Koh one of the MPs. And we see the first group of maybe 200 runners for the 10km run off. About 10 mins later the larger group of 5km runners moved off.

First 10km runner we saw running back was Vivian tang singapore top female long distance runner. We were placing bets on what timing she would get but .. we all got it wrong.

At the end of the race, we all gather at esplande to have a parting shot before the gals and guys left to have breakfast and collection of the goodie bag.

Weekend update - tennis

Alien attacking?

Its been a rather long weekend of activities. both on the active and inactive sort of way.
Saturday after salsa class i head down to join the sgrunners for a game of tennis which in away i have been laid off due to lack of friends in the game.

Met up with superboy , meteor , alvo and angeline at the YCK station before heading to the tennis center just next to it. There taz , SV , bala, Kay already in the court smashing away, Telee and charmain also dropby. Some them of them are first timers like angeline, meteor and charmain got free coaching by taz , bala and sv. From a 2 hr session we extended to over 3hrs. At the end of the session we had dinner at the resturant next to the tennis session. SV was not feeling too good after the tennis he had cramps and was vommiting quite a few times. Could be he was over exhausted from the afternoon run 27km before the tennis after which i sent him home to recover.

Stanchart marathon mailer

Just got my direct mailer from standard charter marathon organiser. Seems like being an ex-runner have its privilages to sign up with a 20% discount ..wooo weee.. Custom printed too with my last year half marathon timing too. Well but seems that for some guys from SGrunners got another mailer that let them sign up at raffles place to get a special limited edition goody bag. Which for some reason not on my mailer. Maybe its tied to your pass participation or stuff like that..confusing..puzzling

Run - Botanical garden - orchard rd - 11.5km

Once a month we have the BG run aka botanical garden run. Met up with roonz, SV early in the morning about 6.30am to hitch a ride down with james. Seems like he was caught in something and arrived like 6.50am instead. When we reached SMU, we missed the first inaugural briefing conducted by RSM brokie at the basketball court. But we were greeted by Renoh, mwengrof , Ronnie, JT, Doraemon_red , Cazz , ronnie, Charmane3, Bikerchic, Superboy, cfred84, tiwazz, Angelica-Wonders, daisiki , gems, DO, DreamRunner, Teelee , Cokiee, Roonz , melissa, ultraman, Meteor and Alvo.

We started straight after we reached, and the run started at about 7.20am. headed into botanical garden. For me its a unfamiliar ground having only run inside the 2nd time. Passed by the new NUS law faculty which is still under construction. the straight to the swan pond. And a request by jeremy we head down to the evolution garden for a sip of water. When we exited from BG its around 4-5km according to footpod.

From there we headed up to minden rd , ripley rd, harding rd and to tanglin road. We had a break at the shell station there before RSM lead us into nassim road which was rather quiet.
Once we reach the entrance back to BG. We were given option to run another loop around cluny rd, tanglin road and nassim road again which should give another 2-3km or just head straight back to SMU to wait for the rest. Was with doremon-red, cfred, charmane3 and we voted to go straight to SMU 11.5km was enough for the day. On the way back to SMU we bump into DO who lost the rest inside BG, he ran around the area 3 times from what he said. Miss the front group and also the back group. After we gave direction on where he can catch the rest doing the extra 2-3km he ran off in a puff.

It was when everyone got back that we got to know that roonz had a fall and her knee is all bloodied. She say its alright nothing to be worried about. We were later served by brokie with her homemade barley drink and some cold sliced apple (thanks brokie) after that the group went over to food haven for some carbo loading, Seal made a surprise appearance to pass a inspirational book to DR. After lunch i hitch a ride back home on james mobile.

Distance : 11.5km
Timing : 69mins 14s

Milk run - 8.4km - Hottest run ever!

I am not saying the folks who go to milk run are hot.. but i am really describing that afternoon run at 3pm is blazing hot. Would have to think twice going for that sorta run. Thankfully it wasn't 10km like last year.

Sotong showing us his boot .. no i mean his back.

Anyway i met up with the sgrunners over at copthorne first to turn up was jeremy, teelee , tiwazz, charmaine, IMD, balasing . Later Sotong, FBB and bee came by , and Sotong kindly lent us his boot , i mean car boot to dump our bags at copthorne hotel.

Tiwazz, charmain, imd and teelee goin for the run after supporting OSIM Tri..

After which IMD proceed to look for the VRP gals. At the start line spotted tekko and wife , cheow and violet, Run3 and bf , weishan, TLR, Bug , ronnie etc . Before the flag off by MP vivian balakrishnan, the DJ intro Vivan Tan who is singapore fastest long distance female runner, first time i saw her in the flesh.

The route was well not really long .. but somehow it felt like the longest and toughest run i ever had due to the shearing afternoon sun. Since its a charity run timing was not used so i was just beating against my own stopwatch. Pickup the water at the waterpoint, it was warm man. Doesn't really help me by pouring over my head. It made me even warmer. After the second leg of the route i somewhat takes short walk in between as my leg started to feel strained. Thats where i notice 2 or so runners exhausted by the heat and were being stretched out.

At last i made it to the finishing line within 44 mins. Looking at the ranking i came in about 280 place. Well its for charity anyway so ranking is not that important.
